INTERNSHIP DAY 6.


in the morning,
i went over to the kitchen in the kampong and chopped up the remaining half of the turtle food.
after that,
went to the rainforest kidzworld for teabreak.

after teabreak,
i went over to the leaf storage area to sweep the floor.
it was a very long sweep.
i swept the floor until it was lunch time.
so that means i took about 1.5hours to do it.

during lunch,
went to the rainforest kidzworld again with yiting.
today's lunch was RICE+VEGETABLES+ACHAR+FISH and COKE!
the achar was spicy.(so i didnt eat it)
the fish had a lt of bones.(so i didnt finish it)
but i finished the rice,vegetables and coke.

after that,
we slowly walked back to our own 'offices'.
i helped out with the tree tops trail feeding at 2pm.
i spent so much time looking at elmo and anna.
i'll miss them.

then,
i went to sweep up the leaves at the proboscis monkey area and i was done.
LAST TASK OF THE DAY AT TREE TOPS TRAIL!

i went over to the 'Wildlife Healthcare & Research Centre'.
also known as the vet place.
spoke to one of the nurses there and i was allowed to go back there after my break!

during break,
yiting and i went to ben 'n' jerry's at kidzworld!
then,
we went to play with some of the things at kidzworld.
it was really fun.

after break,
yiting asked one of her 'colleagues',saskia,if she could come and join me at the vet place..
we slowly made our way there.

at the wildlife healthcare and research centre,
one of the guys there took us around the place and we saw a lot of super cute animals.
some were abandoned,
some were confiscated,
some were injured.
but all suffered in one way or another.
the animal that actually caught my eye was the rabbit that had a dislocated leg.
it was really a poor thing.
yiting and i asked if we could play with her and we even managed to feed her some long beans!
we also had a fun time loonking into a fishtank and spotting the fishes and shrimp.
i think the both of us really enjoyed looking at the 'lobster-like' thing dig the hole.

at 5pm,
we left the place and bade farewell.




the last day of internship.
i have mixed emotions about it.
although the past 5 days really tired me out,
i have enjoyed every single moment of it.
i'll miss all the animals,
the tapirs,babirusas,proboscis monkeys,hornbills,barking deer,otters,mousedeers,siamangs and false gharials.
and i'll miss my 'colleagues',
selvan,chew,ho,
and last but not least,
nawawi,
who has taught me so much during this six days and made this six days pass so easily.
I'LL MISS ALL OF YOU!

INTERNSHIP DAY 5.


as usual,
when i went to my kampong in the morning,
there wasnt anyone there.
went walking around to find my 'colleagues'.

finally after about 10 minutes,
I FOUND ONE OF THEM!
i went over to the kitchen to cut fruits for the asian pond turtle again.
yupp,as usual.

after that,
i waited for someone with the keys to come over so that i could put my bag inside the room and go for my break.

during break,
yiting and i went over to the polar bears to see the feeding.
after that,
we went to the splash zone again.
saw the animals there and had a good laugh(:

after break,
i went back to the kampong to sweep up the leaves.
and i walked into another spiderweb..

then,
i went to the proboscis monkey exhibit to see the feeding at 1130 hrs.
when my 'colleagues' came out from the exhibit,
i helped to untie the leaves and was prepared for lunch time.

TOMYAM SOUP for lunch!
spicy,
but sour at the same time.
really nice.
yiting and i went to the polar bear exhibit to have lunch again(:
one of the keepers there talked to us about reptiles.
it was quite interesting.
after that,
we went to wild africa again.
saw the lions and giraffes.
and we found out that male lions are FLIRTS!
cruel flirts to be really exact.

i went back after lunch and helped out with the treetops trail token feeding session.
saw the same animals again,
but i realise that the siamangs are really cute!

soon,
it started to rain and i went back to my kampong.
nothing much to do for the rest of the day.

INTERNSHIP DAY 4.


not exactly the right day to be in the zoo yeah?


morning!
chop up food for the asian pond tortoise again.
managed to do it within less than 45 minutes today!
YAY,
good job(:


morning teabreak!
during teabreak,
met up with yiting to roam the zoo again.
we went to see the jaguar.
after that,
i helped to rake up the leaves in the outside of the inside of the proboscis monkey enclosure.
(meaning,the place where there is no entry to visitors,and you dont get to see the animals)
i finished it in about half an hour,
then i helped to rake up the leaves in the leaf storage place.


lunch!
CHICKEN RICE FOR LUNCH!
during lunch,
i met up with yiting and we went to the polar bear exhibit to have our lunch.
the polar bear was super cute.
it kept swimming along the same route and repeating the same actions.
after that,
we went to the wild africa place and saw cheetahs and zebras.

after lunch,
i fed the babirusas and helped out with the siamang feeding again.
nawawi taught me how to differentiate elmo and anna!
finally i can differentiate the both of them.
after that was more leaf cutting.
my 'colleagues' decided to cut the leaves near the otter enclosure.
after that,
was the feeding of the proboscis monkeys (AGAIN).

afternoon teabreak!
during teabreak,
i went over to find yiting and we didnt really go anywhere.
after i went back to my kampong,
i just talked to my 'colleagues' and watch them cleaning up the babirusa enclosure.

i was dismissed to go home after that,
but i went over to yiting's place and we went to feed the snakes together with kelly.
it was really fun.
a nice experience!

INTERNSHIP DAY 3.

morning!
as usual,
there wasnt anyone at my 'kampong' when i first entered.
i went to the otter place,
visited the malayan tapir as well as the babirusas,
and finally one of my 'colleagues' came back from the proboscis monkey enclosure.
for the first time in three days,
i managed to prepare the food for the asian pond turtle.
ALL BY MYSELF(:
it was quite easy,
with the exception of the super hard carrots and sweet potato.
because of the carrot,
i think i (sort of) cut my finger.
no blood though.
must be more careful tomorrow!


morning teabreak!
my 'colleague' said that i could go for teabreak after chopping up the food for the turtle,
AND I DID.
met up with yiting and kelly at the butterfly place and we went to roam the zoo.
we went to see some animals like the penguins and the crocodiles.
soon,
all three of us had to return to work.

after my teabreak,
i went over to the leaf storage place together with my 'colleagues'.
it was time to tie up the leaves for the animals again.
i couldnt really help much,
so i just swept the floor to ensure that the place was tidy.
after that,yiting came over to find me and we had lunch together.


lunch!
my 'colleague' went to get my food for me,
and we went over to yiting's place to collect her food.
we wanted to have lunch with kelly,
but we couldnt find her.
yiting and i sat at the usual place and had our lunch.
FISH AND CHIPS WITH COKE~
super filling.
after that,
we had some spare time.
we went to the jaguar enclosure again.
both of up were super bloated after lunch.
and as usual,
i had to walk past half of the zoo to get back to my kampong.

after lunch,
i was able to feed the babirusas!
token feeding...
fruits and vegetables.
it was really,really fun.
I WANNA DO IT AGAIN TOMORROW.
then i was asked to sweep up my kampong as the floor was totally filled with leaves.
one of my colleagues went to clean the pond in the tapir enclosure and i went to the visitor side to see him work.
not exactly fun.
there was this thing that looks like poo and soil in the pond.
(eww..)

after that,was the routine feeding of the animals.
i helped to feed the siamangs(anna and elmo)!
basically,
i just put the riceballs into the small bucket at the tip of a super long pole.
the otters was still super cute.
and i start to smell their 'fart'.
smelly...
but it helps them to mark their territory.
so,
respect them(:

my 'colleagues' then went over to feed the proboscis monkeys,hornbills and barking deer.
the hornbills were super cute.
the male hornbill actually gave pieces of food to the female one before he ate!
i'll try to get a video of it tomorrow.
i couldnt spot the barking deer today.
since animals know the spirit of giving,
i think we all should too!

after that,
my 'colleagues' went to cut leaves (again...),
and i went for teabreak.


afternoon teabreak!
during teabreak,
i went over to yiting's place and we met kelly near the toilet.
WE WENT TO THE KIDS RAINFOREST PLACE!
managed to touch some horses and ponies.
then after that we went back to work.
for me,
it was really slack.
i just stood there to look at my 'colleague' clean the babirusa cage,
and then it started to rain.
after a while,
my 'colleague' decided that it was safer for me to go home instead of staying in the kampong as they were going to feed the proboscis monkeys again.

i went to the office to wait for yiting and kelly.

end of day 3.

INTERNSHIP DAY 2.


today was simple.
we reached our workplace at around 0845hrs and started to do our work.

for me,
it was the chopping up of fruits and vegetables for the turtle again.
then it was the routine morning feed.

teabreak after that.
yiting and kelly came to find me and they went to my 'kampong' to see my workplace.
they went to see the otters as well.
then we bade farewell at around 1030hrs and i went along with my 'colleagues' to feed the animals.
today weather was so much nicer then yesterday's and i managed to see the hornbills and barking deer that were in the proboscis monkey enclosure.

it was soon lunch and we planned to meet up to eat together.
i got my packed lunch and drink with me and went over to yiting's work place.
it was super difficult to find.
worst of all,
he place doesnt have RECEPTION!
there was no way i was able to contact her.
and kelly didnt answer her phone.
but in the end,i found yiting and kelly.
i was very relieved to have an hour off from work.

after lunch at 1300hrs,
i went back to my 'kampong' and went around for the routine lunch-time feeding for the animals.
i managed to see the white-faced saki monkeys as well as an elephant.
UP CLOSE.
my 'colleagues' started to cut leaves for the proboscis monkeys and i was quite bored.
during teabreak,
i asked if i could go and look for my friend.
soon,
i was with yiting and we went around exploring the zoo.
apparently,
she didnt have anything to do and asked her in-change if she could come find me as well.

we explored almost the whole of the zoo and our legs are so super tired that it felt like it was going to dislocate.


ps. the otters are so quiet today.
they even had afternoon nap...

INTERNSHIP DAY 1.


at 0900hrs,the three of us (kelly,yiting and i) reached the corporate office before it started to rain.(phew!)
we registered ourselves and soon,Agnes came to brief us on some things about the volunteer program.
we were told that we would be split up into 3 different sections of the zoo,namely 'FRAGILE FOREST','REPTILE GARDEN' and 'TREETOPS TRAIL'.
i volunteered to go for the treetops trail while kelly and yiting went for the fragile forest and reptile garden respectively.
after that,we went to our various stations.

i met up with my 'colleagues',took my valuables with me and the day officially started.

my 'office' is something like a kampong style place and my two neighbours are the babirusas and the malayan tapirs.

my first task was to prepare food for the asian pond turtle.
it was pretty simple,
basically just chopping up fruits and vegetables.
after that,i went for a short teabreak with the keeper-in-charge.
following that was feeding time!
i didnt really get a chance to feed any of the animals.
just stood around to look.
first up was the turtle.
next was the mousedeers
after feeding these two animals,
i followed my 'colleagues' to tie up some branches of leaves for the proboscis monkeys.
we had to tidy up the place before the keepers could start to feed the proboscis monkeys.
(proboscis monkeys are monkeys with big noses.)
after that,at about 1140hrs,
it was our lunch time.

the lunch provided by the zoo was nice.
it was quite a big portion and was complete with a drink.

i finished my lunch by 1215hrs and the rest of my lunch break was slack time.
two of my 'colleagues' took this time to take a short nap.
for me,
i just sat there and day dreamed.
i also took this time to find out how my friends were doing in their departments.

since we already had our lunch,
it was then time for the animals to have theirs.
i had a chance to try to feed the babirusas(kind of like a wild boar).
i really hope i get to do it again tomorrow!
the rest of my 'colleagues' also tried to train one of the tapirs to get used to the vets doing ultrasound by doing a dry run.
it was an interesting sight to see and the tapir was really huge!
bigger than i expected.
we went for our rounds to feed the animals again.
the otters were really cute.
the really treasured their fish.
thn we went to pack up more leaves,
and my 'colleagues' went to feed the proboscis monkeys.
lastly was the mousedeers.
i think my 'colleagues' fed other animals while i wasnt around.
I WANT TO FEED MORE ANIMALS!

well,
that was about all.
